An open letter on the Herald Three by Carl Hiaasen and Leonard Pitts

Today, One Herald Guild members Carl Hiaasen and Leonard Pitts sent an open letter to management demanding that the company recognize that Angel Doval, Flor Paz and Douglas Rojas-Sosa are members of our union.

Management had previously excluded Leonard and Carl before agreeing to recognize them as union members. Yet the company continues to deny Angel, Flor and Douglas that same right — and won’t explain why. Below is Leonard and Carl’s letter:

Dear Mindy,

We are writing to urge you to recognize that Douglas Rojas-Sosa, Flor Paz and Angel Doval are members of One Herald Guild. Allowing the two of us into the union while denying our colleagues that same right is unfair and unjust. 

Before the election, you often spoke of how you hoped we would “heal” and “come together” once we had voted. Now, you have the perfect opportunity to put your words into action. Please make our newsroom whole by acknowledging that Douglas, Flor and Angel are part of One Herald Guild. We are united on this front. We stand with our colleagues.
