Preserving local journalism

Florida’s best newspapers (el Nuevo Herald, the Miami Herald and the Bradenton Herald) are up for sale.

Investors interested in buying the McClatchy Company’s newspapers have submitted initial letters of interest to the judge in the company’s bankruptcy case.

One Herald Guild and the Organizing Committee of Bradenton Herald News Guild support buyers who care about sustainable, bilingual, innovative journalism. The Three Heralds are essential parts of Florida’s democratic fabric. And while we pride ourselves on quality local news, our publications also consistently provide unique coverage in national and international arenas. They cannot be allowed to fall into the wrong hands — owners that would gut newsrooms and local news coverage.

We hope a buyer will emerge with the goal of helping to sustain these strong, dependable regional newspapers so that we can continue expert journalism that holds the powerful accountable and tells the stories of our unique communities.

We represent a profoundly dedicated group of journalists committed to everyday excellence, in a newsroom that prides itself on its diversity and creativity.

We welcome ownership groups that share our goals of quality journalism and fair treatment of employees, and we look forward to working with them.

Please help preserve our journalism and our communities.
